2024 Lunar New Year Activities


February is always a busy time for the local AAPI community. With Lunar New Year bringing fun and exciting cultural events across Central Texas, it can be hard to keep track of everything going on! 

That’s why we’ve compiled this list of Lunar New Year events and celebrations from around our local community. Many of these events are free to the public to attend. We’ll be updating the list throughout the month of February, so be sure to bookmark this page and check back often to be sure not to miss anything!

Announcing the Austin Asian ERG Coalition Q1 Meeting in partnership with the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce (GAACC) and sponsored by Indeed.

Join the Austin Community College District for a screening of the award-winning documentary “Not Your Model Minority,” followed by a panel discussion with students, faculty, staff, and community. We will explore how the “model minority” myth has been perpetuated over time, as well as how it continues to affect individuals and communities today.

This is an online workshop and will be recorded and emailed in case you can’t attend live online.

Participate in a transformative workshop into the ancient wisdom of Feng Shui, where you will learn practical concepts and engage in simple energy activations and meditations, laying the foundation for harmonious living in the year of the dragon.

Celebrate Lunar New Year at the Hampton Library! Join us to enjoy performances by The Love of China School of Dance and the Texas Dragon/Lion Dance Team. Enjoy food, crafts, and music to bring in the Year of the Dragon in style! Free and open to the public.

Come on down to Fierce Whiskers Distillery to celebrate the Lunar New Year. In honor of the celebration, Fierce Whiskers is re-releasing their most popular special limited edition bottle Ham Chơi, a Cabernet-finished Straight Bourbon! Join the distillery in an afternoon of festivities, including a variety of vendors guests will be able to enjoy throughout the whole day and a performance by Lee’s Dragon’s at 2 p.m.

Round Rock Public Library welcomes you to preschool bilingual storytime celebrating Lunar New Year. Join us for crafts at 10:30 am in the second-floor Youth Program Space.

This free activity is designed for children who are at least 3 years old.

Vista’s Executive Chef Kyle Barker and Sous Shara Tran have created a menu featuring delicious Asian dishes. On Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, the AAPI Cultural Center at Austin Community College invites you to attend a Lunar New Year Festival at ACC Northridge!

Experience an afternoon of enchanting performances, including a Lion Dance by the Texas Dragon/Lion Dance Team, live dance and music, and a Tai Chi demonstration by Aiping Tai Chi.

The Lunar New Year is celebrated throughout east and southeast Asia and marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. CHUNJIE means spring festival, and it is the most important festival on the Chinese calendar and traditionally represents a time to celebrate with family and friends. Come join us at West China Tea, Austin’s only Asian owned tea house, to celebrate the upcoming Year of the Dragon!

A ticket includes a gift of tea and a teacup to take home afterwards, it also grants access to all entertainment and unlimited tea service. Art, Food, and other Treats can be purchased from the other vendors present.

The Princeton Club of Austin is excited to bring back the Lunar New Year Dim Sum Brunch for its third year in collaboration with the Asian American Alumni Association of Princeton (A4P).

Join us at Qi Austin: Modern Asian Kitchen to celebrate the start of the Year of the Dragon with delicious dim sum and the company of fellow Princeton alumni. Tickets are $34 for the Chef Selection’s of dim sum and tea. Dues-paying members can enjoy a $5 discount.
